The City of Greensboro has activated its White Flag warming center Monday, February 2. Due to the significant snowfall this weekend, First Baptist Church, 1000 W. Friendly Ave., will continue to provide 24-hour shelter through 9 am, February 3. The First Baptist warming center is open to single adults and families.
The Interactive Resource Center (IRC) will be closed today, as its employees will be operating the First Baptist warming center.
The Glenwood Recreation Center location closed this morning, and warming center clients were transported to First Baptist.
The City's Community Safety Department activates White Flag status when the actual or "feels-like" temperature is 32 degrees or less for two or more hours. A White Flag alert can take effect when the forecast or current conditions include a winter weather event with freezing precipitation, extended below-freezing temperatures, and/or wind concerns, which may impact homeless encampments.
