Protecting Our Health Care
This week, I joined Dr. Susan Ehrlich and San Francisco General Hospital Foundation CEO Kim Meredith at the Commonwealth Club to discuss how President Trump's Big Ugly Bill threatens health care in our city. From emergency treatment to primary care, Zuckerberg San Francisco General is essential to the health of our community-and Republican Medicaid cuts threaten the care our neighbors depend on.

When people lose coverage, they still need care, placing greater strain on hospitals and the health professionals who serve us all. San Francisco's commitment to caring for our neighbors reflects our deepest values. Democrats will continue fighting to defend Medicaid and ensure every American has access to quality, affordable health care.

Building America
It was a joy to welcome the Western Conference of Operating Engineers to San Francisco for its 80th Convention, and an honor to receive a resolution celebrating our work together for working families. Operating Engineers build our roads and bridges, maintain essential facilities and train the next generation of skilled workers through union apprenticeships.

The middle class is the backbone of our country, and it has a union label on it. As Speaker, I was proud to help deliver the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to rebuild our communities and create good-paying jobs. Together, we must defend prevailing wages, strengthen workers' freedom to organize and ensure that the people who build America can afford to raise a family and retire with dignity.

A Steadfast Friendship
It was an honor to reunite with former President Tsai Ing-wen, a courageous champion of democracy and a dear friend of America. Her leadership and commitment to freedom have strengthened the friendship between the United States and Taiwan.

The bond between our peoples is strong, rooted in our shared democratic values. Congress' commitment to the Taiwanese people and their freedom remains steadfast, and I will continue working to strengthen this enduring partnership.

The Next Generation
Each year, my office has the privilege of celebrating young San Franciscans through the Congressional Art Competition, which showcases high school students' creativity and displays our district's winning artwork in the U.S. Capitol. Students can express their talents through painting, drawing, photography and other visual arts. Visit our Congressional Art Competition page to learn more and see past winners.

For young people interested in serving our country, my office is now accepting applications for nominations to the U.S. Military Service Academies through October 15, 2026. These academies combine a college education with military training, preparing graduates for leadership and service to our nation. Visit our Military Academy Nominations page for application instruction.
