WATCH: Ty Masterson Admits He Wrote Brownback Experiment
Newly unearthed video features Masterson saying "the Brownback plan, which by the way I wrote back in 2008, maybe or 07"
The Democratic Governors Association released a new digital ad featuring an unearthed video in which Ty Masterson, a longtime ally of Sam Brownback, admits he wrote the disastrous Brownback tax experiment.
In the video, Masterson brags about his leading role in authoring the failed tax experiment, saying, "the Brownback plan, which by the way I wrote back in 2008, maybe or 07." The ad also features Masterson defending Brownback, claiming that the deeply unpopular former governor "just got blamed" for the tax experiment that decimated Kansas schools and tanked the state's economy.
It's a massive admission by Masterson, who was one of Brownback's closest allies in the state legislature. Masterson not only voted to pass the failed experiment that slashed school budgets and left infrastructure projects abandoned, he called the bipartisan effort to repeal it "a piece of garbage."
Brownback remains a deeply unpopular figure in Kansas with a whopping 64 percent unfavorability rating.
"Ty Masterson's own words make it clear: the Masterson agenda is the Brownback agenda," said DGA Deputy Communications Director Johanna Warshaw. "No matter how hard Ty tries to distance himself from his role in the failed Brownback experiment, the truth is he wrote the disastrous plan - and he was caught admitting it on tape."
