Long Beach, CA - The City of Long Beach, an LA28 Venue City, will stage 11 sporting events for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, according to today's announcement from the Los Angeles Organizing Committee for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games (LA28). This news comes following the International Olympic Committee's Executive Board's April 9, 2025, approval of LA28's Olympic Venue Plan, which includes relocations and additions to the existing plan.

"Long Beach is now confirmed to serve as a premier waterfront venue for the 2028 Games. We are thrilled and honored to have Beach Volleyball join the list of acclaimed sporting events to be held on our iconic coastline, from Sailing to Water Polo, and we are excited to open our doors to the world and showcase the culture, diversity and spirit of our community," said Mayor Rex Richardson. "We are proud to share our unique waterfront with athletes and fans from across the globe as we unite to celebrate the power of sport. This presents a generational economic opportunity for our city, and we look forward to working with LA28 as we continue to prepare for this monumental experience."

Long Beach is set to showcase Beach Volleyball at Alamitos Beach, bringing the event closer to a variety of other sports including Coastal Rowing, LA28's newest discipline, which will make its first Olympic appearance along the Long Beach waterfront in 2028. Also added to Long Beach's lineup is Sport Climbing that will take place in the Convention Center Lot, offering stunning views, framing the temporary climbing wall with the nearby Pacific Ocean as an iconic backdrop, and Target Shooting, which will also take place at the Convention Center in a purpose-built, temporary indoor range. The 2028 Games will be the first time the precision sport of Target Shooting will be within walking distance of other Olympic disciplines.

With these additions, Long Beach is now confirmed to stage 11 sporting events across six venues citywide for the 2028 Olympic Games. The four new events join a list of other confirmed sports including Handball at Long Beach's Arena, Canoe-Sprint and Rowing competitions at Marine Stadium, Sailing in the waters along Belmont Shore,Marathon Swimming along the waterfront, and Artistic Swimming and Water Polo in temporary aquatics centers at the Convention Center lot. Triathlon competitions were also previously announced for Long Beach but have been relocated by LA28 and will be held in a different city for the 2028 Games.

As part of the City of Los Angeles' 2017 bid to host the 2024 Olympic Games, five sports were proposed to be held in Long Beach. The additional events to Long Beach's already established competition zones will not only enhance the overall experience for both athletes and spectators but will also keep additional expenses and impact lower while bringing in more visitors, economic activity, and revenue to Long Beach.

The City's involvement in the 2028 Olympic Games will not only raise the City's international profile as a world-renowned destination for business, tourism and special events, but it will also generate significant economic activity for the city and enhance the livability of Long Beach residents and visitors for generations to come.

The City is committed to its involvement in and preparations for the LA28 Games as an official Venue City. In January 2025, the City unveiled its dedicated 2028 Games webpage and introduced its Strategic Roadmap that will serve as a blueprint for Long Beach's planning and implementation of its roles and responsibilities for the LA28 Games. More information about Long Beach's commitment to the LA28 Games is available at longbeach.gov/2028Games.

Hosted by the City of Los Angeles, the 2028 Olympic Games will take place July 14 through July 30, 2028, and the 2028 Paralympic Games will take place Aug. 15 through Aug. 27, 2028. LA28 will announce more information regarding Paralympic sports and venues in the coming months.
