Asiavision, the news exchange platform of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU), officially launched its latest suite of services today, introducing real-time live feeds and integrated audio features for its member base.
This announcement was made during the opening ceremony of the 2026 Asiavision Coordinators' Meeting in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur.
The new service represents a significant technological leap for the exchange, moving beyond traditional file-sharing toward instantaneous broadcasting. ABU Director of News, Indra Singh, said they are excited about the impact this will have on member newsrooms.
"This is a transformative shift for us," Singh stated. "This new capability allows for the seamless uplink of live video feeds, giving our members the power to broadcast breaking news as it happens. We are hopeful that this will assist our members greatly in securing immediate content from fellow Asia-Pacific partners during developing stories."
The platform's upgrade prioritizes speed, flexibility, and multi-platform utility through three core enhancements. Most notably, the new Direct-to-Air live capability allows members to provide real-time feeds that other broadcasters can air or record instantly. This significantly streamlines the workflow by eliminating the traditional delays associated with waiting for manual file uploads.
Despite this shift toward live delivery, the service maintains dual-platform accessibility to ensure no content is missed. For those unable to join a live broadcast, Asiavision continues to provide downloadable links through the Asia Pacific View platform as a standard part of its daily operations.
Finally, the upgrade introduces specialized audio features designed specifically for the region's many dual-service broadcasters. By incorporating dedicated audio tools, the platform now effectively supports organizations that manage both television and radio outputs simultaneously.
The launch coincides with the 2026 Coordinators' Meeting, which is centered on the theme "Bridging the Asia-Pacific: One Story, Many Voices." This year's agenda places a heavy focus on the future of journalism, specifically exploring how members can collaborate more effectively as Artificial Intelligence (AI) continues to reshape the media landscape.
The two-day event features an array of experts and scholars tasked with helping members identify emerging trends while refining the core journalistic values that remain timeless. In a bid to foster future talent, the ABU has also invited local university journalism students to join the discussions alongside veteran broadcasters and industry leaders.
