Portland, Oregon-June 30, 2026. Disability Rights Oregon is deeply concerned that TriMet is eliminating Hand-to-Hand paratransit assistance for 300 riders with severe cognitive disabilities effective July 1, 2026.

""This public transportation cut isn't a minor administrative adjustment; it's a major reduction in services for people who have significant cognitive support needs. Hand-to-hand services support independence and community living for people with disabilities and older adults - they are vital for getting to the doctor's office, seeing family and so much more. It is shameful to see TriMet trying to fix its $224 million budget deficit on the backs of 300 people with cognitive disabilities by cutting hand-to-hand services."" - Statement from Jake Cornett, Executive Director, Disability Rights Oregon
