CUSTER, SD - Jewel Cave National Monument plans to host a free concert The Historic Dance Club Revival on Saturday, September 20th from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. outside in the monument's Historic Area.
This event marks the 125th anniversary of Jewel Cave's first recorded discovery, which was in the late summer of 1900. Music starts at 1:00 p.m. with the Jewel Cave Rangers, followed by Kory Reeder and Co., and concludes with The Two Tracks.
Attendees can also get their free 125th Anniversary of Discovery Junior Ranger books, badges, event stickers, and temporary tattoos. Photographer Dave Rambow will be present at the event to showcase his "wet plate" photographic techniques.
Those interested in attending the Historic Dance Club Revival are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes and bring their own chairs. Parking is limited at the Historic Area. Parking at the Jewel Cave Visitor Center and hiking a ¾ mile on the Canyons Trail to the Historic Area is recommended. The monument has very limited food options, visitors may bring their own food and drink.
The Historic Dance Club Revival is a nod to the initial developers of the Jewel Cave Dance Club, who founded it in 1902 to attract visitors to the cave. Park staff invite the public to revive the dance club to celebrate the many decades of Jewel Cave. This event is made possible with support provided by the Black Hills Parks and Forests Association.
