New Deputy Director General appointed to Political Department

The Finnish Government promoted Counsellor Hanna Lepistö to the public office of Counsellor for Foreign Affairs starting on 1 September 2026 and appointed her to the post of Deputy Director General of the Political Department at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs for a fixed term from 1 September 2026 to 31 August 2030.

Hanna Lepistö will transfer to the Political Department from Consular Services where she serves as Director. Her previous posts include Deputy Director at the Political Department and Deputy Permanent Representative of Finland to NATO. She has also worked in the European External Action Service. Her career in the Diplomatic Service includes posts in Paris, Santiago and Finland's Permanent Representation to the EU.

Lepistö joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 2003. She holds a Master of Social Sciences degree and a Master of Advanced Studies degree in Mediation in Peace Processes from ETH Zurich.
