The University of Michigan-Flint Recreation Center is kicking off the winter season with exciting updates, including brand-new weight room equipment and various fitness programs designed to keep students and community members active during the colder months.
The updated weight room features state-of-the-art equipment to enhance users' strength training experience. Students can access the center at no cost with their Mcard, while faculty, staff and the public can purchase memberships.
"These improvements demonstrate our commitment to providing everyone who utilizes our center with top-quality fitness facilities," said Kimberly Vaughn, associate director of recreation operations. "We're excited to continue enhancing the overall facility in the coming months."
The dated selectorized (units that use weight stacks and pulleys) strength area has been transformed with new Precor equipment, replacing machines that had served users for more than 15 years. A highlight of the upgrade will be a versatile Precor multi-station machine, scheduled for installation in early January, featuring cable crossover, chin/dip, lat pulldown, and low-row capabilities.
The center's free weight section has also received a significant makeover. All equipment, including the Smith machine, racks, benches, and weights, has been replaced. New additions to the space include a Precor calf raise machine, an angled leg press, and a Nautilus glute drive. Later this month, the area will be further enhanced with new mirrors.
In addition to the upgraded facilities, the Rec Services is offering a range of winter fitness programs to suit all interests and fitness levels:
With these updates and programs, the Rec Center continues to serve as a hub for physical activity and wellness on campus. Learn more about the many recreation opportunities by downloading the UM-Flint Rec app for Android or iPhone.
"Students pay a recreation fee each semester, and we really hope everyone takes advantage of the great new weight equipment that we provide to them," said Julia Stulock, associate director of recreation programs and marketing. "And if weight lifting isn't your thing - try a yoga class, a volleyball game, or an ice climbing trip with the outdoor rec club. In short, we encourage you to find something that gets you moving. We look forward to welcoming students, staff, faculty and community members back this semester and helping them along their well-being journey."
