North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Robert Jeffrey Burns, 54, of 11 Rachel Fay Drive, Hendersonville. Burns was charged with embezzlement and conversion by a bailee, both felonies.
Special agents with the Department of Insurance's Criminal Investigations Division accuse Burns of embezzling $3,412.50 from Queen Bail Bonds. In addition, Burns is accused of converting more than $400 in bonds owned by Palmetto Surety Corp. to his own use.
The offenses occurred on Feb. 12, 2025.
Henderson County deputies arrested Burns on Jan. 3. He was given a $4,000 secured bond.
Commissioner Causey encourages North Carolinians to help keep insurance premiums low by reporting suspicious fraud.
"Insurance fraud is not a victimless crime," Commissioner Causey said. "It hits all of us in the pocket through higher premiums."
