CRPD Releases July 2025 Crime Stats

July 2025 crime stats in the six categories regularly reported by CRPD all show declines against their five-year average. This is a positive sign that Cedar Rapids continues to be a safe city.
Homicide, Burglary, Theft of Vehicle and Shots Fired remain notable with steep drops. Alcohol related crimes in July 2025 were up against the July 2024 report. That increase was driven by higher numbers of Operating While Intoxicated and Alcohol In Public Places incidents. OWI charges are avoidable by ensuring a designated driver is available or
taxi/rideshare services are utilized. Alcohol in Public Places becomes an issue for those overconsume alcohol. CPRD encourages responsible behavior when and where alcohol is consumed.

The hope is that current enforcement and prevention practices will help Cedar Rapids remain a safe, thriving community. We appreciate the help we receive from witnesses, 911 callers and the entire community.

*Each month, CRPD releases six key crime statistics which offer a snapshot of overall crime in the city. The categories are Homicide, Aggravated Assault, Burglary, Theft of Vehicles, Theft from Vehicles and Shots Fired.

If you see crime in your neighborhood, call 911 or the non-emergency hotline at 319-286-5491.

Together, we create and hold a strong line against crime in our community.
