Tempe This Week July 27, 2026

Nearly 60 nonprofit partners and community volunteers, along with city staff, took part in our summer Point-in-Time homeless count last week. Teams led by our HOPE outreach specialists fanned out around the city to count and survey as many people as possible. As teams worked, they also took care to offer a warm greeting, listen to individual stories and hand out water and snacks.

Tempe participates in the regional Point-in-Time count each January but is the only city in Arizona to hold a summer count. This provides a mid-year data point and adds to our understanding of homelessness in Tempe.

Data collected from both counts and other sources guide services, strategies and investments. Tempe's winter 2026 results showed a continued decrease in the number of unsheltered people in the community while the region saw an increase in people receiving assistance in shelters. Results from this month's count will be available later this summer.
