Mountain View, CA - A 10-year-old juvenile suspect was detained Wednesday afternoon after a student was stabbed at Bubb Elementary School.
On March 11, at approximately 3:30 p.m., the Mountain View Emergency Communications Center received reports that a student participating in an after-school program at Bubb Elementary School, located in the 500 block of Hans Avenue, had been stabbed in the school's play area.
Patrol officers immediately responded, and the school was placed on lockdown while officers secured the area. Officers located a 7-year-old victim who had suffered three stab wounds to the shoulder. A kitchen knife believed to have been used in the incident was recovered at the scene. Personnel from the City of Mountain View Fire Department treated the child at the scene before releasing them to a parent.
The 10-year-old suspect fled the area before officers arrived. During the neighborhood search, officers located residential video. A patrol officer later identified the suspect through the residential video after recognizing him from prior contacts. A Los Altos Police Department K-9 unit assisted in tracking the suspect from the school to the suspect's residence.
Officers coordinated with a guardian and detained the suspect without incident. Custody of the juvenile was transferred to clinicians from Pacific Clinics, Santa Clara County's juvenile mental health services provider. The suspect does not attend Bubb Elementary School and was not enrolled in the after-school program.
MVPD would like to thank the Los Altos Police Department for their assistance with the K-9 tracking of the suspect.
