Contractor Licensing Changes

Pursuant to Chapter 489, Florida Statutes, as of July 1, 2025, The City of Fort Pierce Contractor licensing requirements have changed. All Certified and Registered Contractor licensing classifications synonymous with the Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) requirements will remain consistent with state requirements. All licensing requirements outside of the DBPR authority will remain unchanged.

Only the following Specialty Contractor Licensing Categories will be available through the City:

• Aluminum Siding Specialty Contractor
• Building Demolition Specialty Contractor
• Drywall Specialty Contractor
• Fencing Specialty Contractor
• Garage Door Specialty Contractor
• Gas Line Specialty Contractor
• Glass and Glazing Specialty Contractor
• Industrial Facilities Specialty Contractor
• Irrigation Specialty Contractor
• Marine Specialty Contractor
• Marine Bulkhead Specialty Contractor
• Marine Dock Work Specialty Contractor
• Marine Pile Driving Specialty Contractor
• Marine Seawall Specialty Contractor
• Plaster and Lath Specialty Contractor
• Residential Swimming Pool/Spa Servicing Specialty Contractor
• Rooftop Solar Heating Specialty Contractor
• Solar water Heating Specialty Contractor
• Structural Aluminum / Screen Enclosures Specialty Contractor
• Structural Carpentry Specialty Contractor
• Structural Masonry Specialty Contractor
• Structural Pre-stressed, Precast Concrete Specialty Contractor
• Structural Steel Specialty Contractor
• Structure Specialty Contractor

The following licenses that currently exist will be updated to the license substantially corresponding to the appropriate license below and renewed as such:

• Aluminum With Concrete -> Structural Aluminum /Screen Enclosures Specialty Contractor
• Aluminum W/O Concrete -> Structural Aluminum / Screen Enclosures Specialty Contractor
• Aluminum Structure -> Structural Aluminum / Screen Enclosures Specialty Contractor
• Carpentry -> Structural Carpentry Specialty Contractor
• Concrete Forming & Finishing -> Structural Masonry Specialty Contractor
• Demolition -> Building Demolition Specialty Contractor
• Exterior Surface Coating -> Plaster and Lath Specialty Contractor
• Gunite -> Structural Masonry Specialty Contractor
• Hurricane Protection -> Window and Doors Specialty Contractor
• Masonry -> Structural Masonry Specialty Contractor
• Metal Building -> Structural Masonry Specialty Contractor
• Reinforcing Steel -> Structural Steel Specialty Contractor
• Siding, Window & Door -> Window & Door Specialty Contractor

The following licenses will no longer be available or renewed at the local level, and will require State Certified or Registered Licensing, as applicable:

• Acoustical/Suspended Ceiling Contractor -> Drywall, General, Building, Residential Contractor
• Asphalt/ Concrete Maintenance -> General Contractor
• Communication and Sound -> Electrical Specialty, Electrical Contractor
• Finish Carpentry -> Structural Carpentry, General, Building, Residential Contractor
• Dredging -> Marine Specialty Contractor
• Excavation -> General, Building, Residential, Underground Utilities Contractor
• Insulation -> General, Building, Residential Contractor
• Lightning Protection Systems -> Electrical Specialty Contractor
• Paving -> General Contractor
• Pile Driving -> Marine, Marine Pile Driving, General, Building, Residential Contractor
• Sign - Non-Electrical -> Sign Electrical Specialty, General, Building Contractor

The following licenses are no longer required by the City:

• Canvas and fabric contractor
• Land Clearing
• Painting and Decorating
• Paver Brick/Paver Block Systems
• Tile, Terrazzo and Marble
• Tree Removal
• Welding

Any licenses that do not correspond to a scope of work per the State licensing requirements will not require licensing. HOWEVER, THIS DOES NOT EXEMPT THE WORK BEING PERFORMED FROM PERMITS.
