Stadium Boulevard ramps in Columbia to narrow next week

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Interstate 70 ramps at Stadium Boulevard will narrowe for core drilling operations next week and motorists are asked to use caution and pay extra attention through the work zone.

Construction crews working with the Missouri Department of Transportation plan to obtain core samples as part of Improve I-70: Rocheport to Columbia. Work will narrow the eastbound I-70 ramp to Stadium Boulevard and the Stadium Boulevard ramp to westbound I-70 from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 21, and Thursday, Jan. 22. Crews will flag motorists through the work zone. All work is weather-permitting, and schedules are subject to change.

Core drilling allows for a detailed examination of the layers of roadway and supporting geology below the roadway surface. By studying the core samples, the program team can make more informed decisions on design and material elements as they work to expand I-70 to three lanes in each direction across Missouri.

MoDOT asks all m otorists to work with us by buckling up, putting your phone down, obeying all traffic signs, and slowing down and moving over in work zones.

This work is part of Improve I-70: Rocheport to Columbia , one project in MoDOT's Statewide Improve I-70 Program. Construction on this section of I-70 is scheduled to begin in 2026 .

Missouri's FY2024 budget approved through the state legislative process and governor provides $2.8 billion in General Revenue to build a third lane of I-70 across the state. The program will plan, design, construct, reconstruct, rehabilitate, and add a third lane in each direction on nearly 200 miles of I-70, from Blue Springs to Wentzville.
