Boyle Statement on Trump’s Joint Address to Congress

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Brendan F. Boyle (PA-02), Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, issued the following statement after Donald Trump's address to a joint session of Congress: 

"This was the angriest, most divisive speech I have ever heard from a President of the United States. Tonight, Donald Trump delivered false promises, blatant lies, and the same tired, self-congratulatory nonsense. Since the moment he took office, Americans have endured chaos at home, embarrassment abroad, and a nonstop assault on the middle class.

Trump loves to talk about protecting the American Dream-but what he really means is protecting it for the wealthy and well-connected, while leaving everyone else behind. He claimed prices would fall on 'day one.' Instead, they've skyrocketed-and his reckless tariffs are about to make things even worse. Working families are already struggling, and Trump's big idea is to squeeze them even harder.

While Trump blusters from the podium, let's remember that Elon Musk is calling the shots-dismantling government services and making it harder for Americans to get their tax refunds, Social Security checks, and the basic support they count on.

And now, Congressional Republicans are pushing the biggest Medicaid cuts in history-all to hand even more giveaways to billionaires. Democrats are fighting back. We're exposing this con for exactly what it is and standing up to protect the middle class from yet another Trump betrayal."
