CONCORD, NH - Today, leaders from the Town of Merrimack and across New Hampshire are thanking Governor Kelly Ayotte for successfully advocating for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to not move forward with plans for an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Merrimack:
"I commend Governor Ayotte for her direct engagement with federal officials and for working diligently behind the scenes to ensure New Hampshire's concerns were heard. Her leadership and willingness to have productive conversations made a difference. This proposal generated strong opinions, but governing requires steady leadership, not performative politics. We must allow the process to work and give leaders the space to resolve issues thoughtfully, rather than rushing to score partisan points. Public safety remains a top priority for the House. I look forward to continued cooperation between state and federal partners to protect our communities while respecting the needs of our towns and cities." - New Hampshire Speaker of the House Sherm Packard
"Governor Ayotte's leadership and determination are the reason that DHS chose not to move forward with their facility in Merrimack. The Governor worked with our town from day one to advocate for our concerns, and she has once again shown that she will always fight for New Hampshire's best interest." - State Sen. Tim McGough, Merrimack
"The will to win is the will to work. I'm truly grateful for Governor Kelly Ayotte and her leadership in advocating for Merrimack and always fighting for New Hampshire. Kudos to my neighbors of Merrimack as well for never losing faith in the face of adversity." - State Rep. Bill Boyd, Merrimack
"The Town of Merrimack has spoken, and Washington listened. Thank you to Governor Kelly Ayotte for making it happen." - State Rep. Maureen Mooney, Merrimack
"This is what happens when you cooperate with federal partners instead of posturing for headlines and political theater. New Hampshire works with Washington, we talk, we strategize, and we coordinate. That's how you secure the northern border, support law enforcement, and still ensure the right outcome for our communities. Let this be a lesson to those who scoff at 287(g) agreements and refuse to collaborate. Results come from strength and partnership." - New Hampshire House Majority Leader Jason Osborne
"Governor Ayotte proved that disciplined and definitive leadership always delivers. Because New Hampshire is a strong partner in enforcing immigration law and banning sanctuary policies, we had credibility at the table. Cooperation produced the best possible outcome for Merrimack and for our state." - New Hampshire House Deputy Majority Leader Joe Sweeney
