Campus to host European Union counselor for research and innovation

Boise State University will welcome Florent Bernard, European Union Counselor for Research and Innovation to the United States, for a series of events focused on advancing research collaboration between the United States and Europe.

Hosted in collaboration with Boise State's Center for Global Engagement, the visit will provide faculty, researchers, postdoctoral scholars, and doctoral students an opportunity to learn more about the European Union's Horizon Europe program and engage in conversations about international research partnerships and funding opportunities.

"Horizon Europe represents one of the world's largest research and innovation funding programs and offers tremendous opportunities for Boise State researchers to expand their global collaborations and scholarly impact," said Gonzalo Bruce, assistant provost for Global Engagement at Boise State University. "Bernard's visit reflects Boise State's growing commitment to international research engagement and transatlantic partnership development."

The visit will feature two engagement opportunities open to the Boise State community:

Networking Event with Florent Bernard

5 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13, 2026 at Barbarian Brewing, Downtown Boise

Faculty, researchers, postdoctoral scholars and graduate students are invited to attend an informal networking gathering with Bernard and colleagues interested in international research collaboration.

Horizon Europe Presentation

11 a.m. to Noon on Wednesday, May 14 in Micron Center for Materials Research room 205

Bernard will deliver a presentation about Horizon Europe, the European Union's flagship research and innovation program. The session will explore funding opportunities, international partnerships and pathways for U.S.-Europe collaborative research initiatives.

The events are part of Boise State's broader efforts to strengthen global research engagement and foster interdisciplinary partnerships that address complex global challenges through innovation and collaboration.
