Statement on Veto of House Bill 958

Raleigh, N.C.

State Auditor Dave Boliek issued the following statement on the veto of House Bill 958:

"Post-election audits are a commonsense, objective way to boost public confidence in our elections. These examinations of election systems and controls are an additional layer of accountability that should be welcomed.

"The Governor incorrectly claims election administration has been politicized. Election access in North Carolina has expanded this year. Voters had a greater number of early voting sites and more early voting hours for the March 2026 primary compared to the May 2022 primary election.

"At the State Auditor's Office, we're going to continue delivering results across our state, and cranking out audits on behalf of the people of North Carolina."
