Underway: Sanitary Sewer Force Main Rehabilitation and Replacement Project

UPDATE: July 17, 2025

Construction work will begin in Rio Vista and Beverly Heights as part of the next phase of this project on Monday, July 21 through October 2025.

Traffic Impacts in Rio Vista:

  • Road closures along SE 9th Ave. from SE 5th Ct. to SE 6th Ct.
  • Residents with driveways within the full road closure will be allowed access with coordination.
  • Detours will be in effect along SE 5th Ct., S Federal Hwy., SE 11th Ave., and SE 6th Ct.
  • Drive with caution in the area, especially when construction workers and vehicles are present.
  • Please follow pedestrian crosswalk signage.

UPDATE: July 10, 2025

Crews will be performing horizontal directional drilling (HDD) to install new a sewer main along Miami Road from SE 12th Street to SE 15th Street in Harbordale starting Friday, July 11, and continuing through Sunday, July 13.

Work will take place at the intersections of Miami Road and SE 12th Street and Miami Road and SE 15th Street. Those are the entry and exit points where the pipes are being installed.

Due to the nature of HDD work, this operation must run continuously, 24 hours a day, until it is complete. A noise ordinance exemption has been approved for this work and will not exceed three days.

The following traffic impacts are in effect in Harbordale as part of the current phase of construction:

  • Miami Road is open to local traffic only between SE 12th Street and SE 12th Court.
  • Miami Road is open to local traffic only between SE 14th Court and SE 15th Street.
  • Eastbound SE 12th Street is open to local traffic only between US 1 / S. Federal Highway and SE 9th Avenue.

These roads are expected to reopen in late July when restoration is completed. This schedule is subject to change based on inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

Please follow posted signs and drive with caution in the area.

UPDATE: May 18, 2025

The City of Fort Lauderdale and Lanzo Construction are launching a multi-phase infrastructure improvement project along the city's wastewater network.

Phase 1 of the project will soon begin in the Harbordale neighborhood.

These improvements are designed to enhance the reliability, capacity, and environmental safety of Fort Lauderdale's wastewater system.

Where: Construction will occur along southbound Miami Rd. and SE 10th Ave. and along SE 15th St. between Miami Rd. and SE 10th Ave, near Harbordale Elementary School.

When: Phase 1 construction will begin in June 2025 and is expected to be completed in August of 2025.

Traffic Impact:

  • Lane closures and detours will be in effect
  • Increased traffic congestion
  • Movement of construction vehicles
  • Pedestrian crosswalk impacts
  • Delays in public transit may occur

Alternative Parking: Alternative parking zones are available for residents on SE 15th St. during construction hours. Please refer to the image for designated Harbordale neighborhood parking areas.

  • Partial lane closures Southbound Miami Rd. and SE 10th Ave.
  • Full lane closure on SE 15th St. between Miami Rd. and SE 10th Ave.

The City of Fort Lauderdale and Lanzo Construction Company are working to upgrade approximately 23,370 feet of large sanitary sewer pipelines along NE/SE 9th and 10th avenues, from Sunrise Boulevard to the George T. Lohmeyer Wastewater Treatment Plant. The project includes:

  • Rehabilitation of over 13,000 feet of existing sewer pipelines
  • Installation of over 10,000 feet of new sewer pipelines
  • Restoration of existing sewer connections
  • Road resurfacing as needed

Project Dates and Times

Construction will begin in December of 2024, and is expected to be completed by August of 2026. Work will take place Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. This schedule is subject to change based on inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

Traffic Impacts

  • Neighbors are asked to refrain from parking within the street daily between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. until this project is completed
  • Access to driveways will be maintained unless work is taking place in the immediate area across from the driveway. Crews will attempt to coordinate with neighbors prior to the start of asphalt operations
  • Updates will be provided on any additional impacts to traffic or parking
  • Please follow posted signs and drive with caution in the area
