Governor Polis Verbally Declares Disaster Declaration For Wildfires in Montrose, Delta and Mesa County

DENVER - Today, Governor Polis verbally declared a disaster declaration for fires in Montrose, Delta and Mesa Counties that stem from one weather event that took place on Thursday July 10th, 2025. Due to the dangerous fire conditions the Colorado Department of Public Safety (CDPS) is engaged on the fires and will continue to be engaged and add resources to support local agencies as necessary with the known fires of South Rim, Montrose County, SowBelly, Montrose, Delta, Mesa Counties, Turner Gulch, Wright Fire, Mesa County, and Deer Creek, Montrose County.

With the disaster declaration, the State Emergency Operations and Resource Mobilization Plans are activated and the Colorado Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHSEM) coordinates the state response through management of the State Emergency Operations Center and deployment of field operations staff to directly support county emergency managers with consequence management. The Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) is leading the incident management and suppression efforts in conjunction with the other CDPS Divisions.
