Free Workshop Series Offered to Promote Dubuque Small-Scale Development

Sessions will address topics essential for small-scale developers to complete a successful project and will cover bank interviews, running project numbers, design, property management, and so much more.

The first session will be held at noon on Tuesday, Nov. 18. Additional sessions will follow at noon on the third Tuesday of each month for the next 12 months. The workshops are sponsored by the City of Dubuque and conducted by Neighborhood Evolution, a development consulting group staffed by experienced small-scale real estate developers, designers, community advocates, and urban planners intent on expanding local knowledge and confidence to translate plans into reality.

Participation is free but registration is required. While the trainings do follow a sequential 12-step order and participants are encouraged to begin when it starts, they can join at any time. The early steps are key for creating a business model and setting up a business, the middle steps are for launching the first project, and the latter steps focus on how to operate the business. "Our goal in offering these workshops is to give small developers and/or potential local developers the confidence, ecosystem, and information necessary to make the best decisions possible as they journey through their renovation or new build," said City of Dubuque Economic Development Director Jill Connors. "We hope this opportunity will give neighbors a roadmap to meet monthly, learn together, and take action toward building more vibrant, people-centered places."
