Media Alert: Joint Oversight Visit to Engage Free State Municipalities Concludes on Friday

Parliament, Thursday, 24 July 2025 - The Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance, along with the Standing Committees for Public Accounts and the Auditor-General, will tomorrow conclude their two-day oversight visit to the Free State. The parliamentary committees, in collaboration with the Free State Legislature, are engaging municipalities in the province following poor audit outcomes in the 2023/24 financial year.

The joint oversight aims to address persistent governance and financial underperformance in municipalities and ensure accountability and consequences against errant officials.
Twelve municipalities, including Moqhaka Local Municipality, Ngwathe Local Municipality and Maluti-a-Phofung Local Municipality, are scheduled to appear before the joint oversight committees on Friday.
