The Florida Forest Service, Gainesville Fire Rescue and Alachua County Fire Rescue continue to monitor four active wildfires in Alachua County. While all fires are largely contained, crews continue to observe smoking and smoldering vegetation within the fire perimeters.
The North Main Street fire in Gainesville is currently 106 acres and 80% contained. The State Road 121 fire in Gainesville is 25 acres and 80% contained. The State Road 26 fire has reached 302 acres and is 80% contained. The South County Road 325 fire is 134 acres and 75% contained.
The Florida Forest Service installed a sprinkler system at the Main Street fire and has been successful in reducing smoke impacts on nearby neighborhoods.
Fire crews across the county are also continuing to respond to spot fires and quickly contain them.
Although some rain is expected this weekend, fire officials say it will not be enough to significantly reduce wildfire risk. Even with progress, residents are urged to remain cautious and continue following local burn ban guidelines.
