US 2/M 28 intersection to become all way stop as traffic signal study in Wakefield is extended

WAKEFIELD, Mich. - Motorists should expect changes at the US-2/M-28 (Sunday Lake Street) intersection in Wakefield, Gogebic County, as the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) continues evaluating the intersection.

Beginning Thursday at approximately noon, the intersection will become a four-way stop. The traffic signal at US-2 and M-28 will flash red for all directions and stop signs with advance warnings will be in place. Motorists should be aware of the change in the traffic pattern and use appropriate caution while driving through the intersection.

The study is scheduled to be completed in November, when a final determination will be made regarding future intersection operations.

The study will evaluate the safety and operational performance of the intersection, including a detailed analysis to determine if a traffic signal is warranted. The study will determine the most appropriate intersection configuration prior to a planned US-2 rebuilding project in the area.
