Parliament, Sunday, 5 October 2025 - The Portfolio Committee on Tourism will this week conduct oversight visit to Gauteng province to focus on infrastructure projects in the township and urban tourism.
More than R1billion has been appropriated to the Department of Tourism, for the promotion of tourism, building and refurbishment of tourism infrastructure. Some of the infrastructure projects are managed by the Development Bank of Southern Africa.
The oversight programme will commence tomorrow, Monday 6 October with site visits to the Sharpeville Memorial, Boipatong Monument and the Emfuleni Caravan Park. On Tuesday, 7 October the committee will visit the Cullinan Diamond Lodge which is a beneficiary of the Green Tourism Incentive Program.
On Wednesday, 8 October, the committee will visit the Cradle of Humankind, People's Park, and the South African Tourism Office where the committee will engage with the SA Tourism.
On Thursday, 9 October the committee will visit the Vredefort Dome and the Suikebosrand in Johannesburg, followed by Hector Peterson Memorial at Vilakazi Street in Soweto on Friday.
