Coyote Sightings in Pleasanton: What to Know

Coyote Sightings in Pleasanton: What to Know

  • July 7, 2025

As temperatures rise, it's common to see coyotes in Pleasanton neighborhoods and along local trails, particularly during their pup-rearing season from March through August. Coyotes are a natural part of our environment, and most encounters are not aggressive.

Here are a few important safety reminders:

  • Stay calm if you see a coyote.
  • Keep children close and pets on a leash.
  • Avoid hiking alone.
  • If approached, do not run. Maintain eye contact, make yourself look large, wave your arms, and slowly back away.
  • Never feed coyotes or leave pet food outside.
  • Secure garbage bins and remove fallen fruit from around your home.
