Andrew Johnson National Historic Site Invites Public to Easter Egg Roll

Date:
March 27, 2026

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - Andrew Johnson National Historic Site invites the public to participate in a time-honored Easter tradition - the annual Easter egg roll. The park has partnered with the Greeneville Greene County History Museum and the Friends of the Andrew Johnson National Historic Site to organize this event. The egg roll will take place from 2 to 3 p.m. on April 4 at the historic Andrew Johnson Homestead, located at 209 South Main Street.

Egg rolling games are an Easter tradition originating in Paris in the 16th century. America's presidents and their families started hosting unofficial egg rolls in Washington, D.C. over 200 years ago! The Johnsons were the first family to hold the event on the White House lawn, and in 1878, it became an official White House event.

The egg roll will take place at the Johnsons' Greeneville Homestead. Children ages 12 and under and their families are invited to participate. They will have an opportunity to decorate and take home their own wooden egg, while supplies last. In addition to the egg roll, there will be an Easter egg hunt, crafts and other activities. Please dress according to the weather for outside play and bring your own basket to collect eggs.

Parking is available along Main Street, at the Greeneville Greene County History Museum, and the Fox Park lot located next to the Andrew Johnson Homestead. The Andrew Johnson NHS Visitor Center will be open from 9 a.m. through 4 p.m. and is walking distance from the Homestead.
