With the kick off to the FIFA World Cup 2026™ just weeks away, Airbnb is ramping up its support and safety efforts to help deliver positive, seamless stays for millions of football fans, the communities they'll visit, and our hosts across the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
As part of a comprehensive investment in safety and support, we'll have over 13,000 support agents available throughout the tournament, and have launched new travel guides for visitors, expanded partnerships with human trafficking prevention organizations, and increased law enforcement engagement, to help the communities we serve have positive experiences.
"The FIFA World Cup 2026™ is one of the biggest sporting moments in a generation, and we're excited to play a meaningful role in connecting fans with unique places to stay across 16 host cities in North America," said Roger Kaiser, Vice President of Fraud and Safety Operations at Airbnb. "We've spent months preparing-expanding our support capacity, deepening law enforcement partnerships, and equipping our community with the resources they need-so that guests, hosts, and the neighborhoods welcoming the world all have a great experience."
This safety gameplan includes:
The best travel experiences are seamless, but if support is needed, more than 13,000 specially trained agents will be available around the clock for our community-by phone, in-app, and via our Help Center-throughout the tournament. Whether a guest or host has a question before arrival or needs help mid-stay, these teams can help in multiple languages. Our dedicated 24/7 Safety Line is also available to our community for urgent situations in 16 languages.
With tens of thousands of guests booking tournament-time stays in host cities being first-time Airbnb users from around the world, many will also be visiting North America and the 16 host cities for the first time. To help them get the most out of their stay, we've created responsible travel guides for guests visiting Canada, Mexico, and the United States during the tournament, covering everything from sustainability tips and being a good neighbor to how to contact Airbnb support.
We've also updated dozens of articles in our Help Center, so guests and hosts can easily find the additional policy and support information they may need throughout the tournament.
For fans traveling with Airbnb for the tournament, every booking comes with AirCover for guests, which provides cover against significant unexpected issues, like host cancellations or amenity problems. This means, if a serious issue arises with a listing that the host can't resolve, we'll help the guest find a similar place to stay based on availability at comparable pricing, or we'll refund them. Hosts welcoming fans will also be protected by AirCover for hosts, which includes up to $3M in damage protection in the event a guest damages your property during an Airbnb stay.
We're committed to being a good partner to local communities, and our ban on disruptive parties remains firmly in effect throughout the tournament. This ban is supported by our reservation screening technology, which blocks potentially higher-risk bookings before they can be made and is in effect across North America for the duration.
Should local residents have urgent concerns, such as reporting a potential party at a home they believe is listed on Airbnb, they can reach us directly through our Neighborhood Support Line. We investigate reports and take action where our policies are violated.
Airbnb's dedicated Law Enforcement team has also proactively connected with hundreds of law enforcement agencies across the U.S., Mexico, and Canada, so local authorities know how to reach us.
Our commitment extends to global issues. Large sporting events can create conditions for a heightened risk of human trafficking and exploitation, and helping to combat these crimes requires collective action. We are committed to supporting these efforts, and have worked with longtime partners It's a Penalty and ECPAT to help equip our community and frontline teams with the knowledge to help recognize and report potential exploitation.
As part of this work, we supported the development of a free online learning course, created with ECPAT and hosts on Airbnb and available globally in English and Spanish, to help hosts identify and respond to signs of potential human trafficking and exploitation. We're also backing It's a Penalty's campaign, which uses the power of sport and major sporting events to help build more vigilant, informed communities worldwide.
From the opening match to the final whistle, Airbnb is committed to helping make this tournament a positive experience-for the fans traveling from across the globe, the hosts welcoming them, and the neighborhoods at the heart of it all.
