Ballots are out and Oregon Secretary of State Tobias Read is updating Oregonians on where and how they can find secure, official ballot drop boxes.
"Your vote is your right as an American to hold government accountable. Don't take any chances: make a plan to get your ballot in on time," said Secretary Read.
"The best way to return your ballot is through a secure, official drop box. There are hundreds of drop boxes conveniently located around the state, and the ballots returned to those boxes ballots are regularly picked up and delivered straight to your local elections official. Now, thanks to the hard work of our staff and your local elections officials, there are even more drop boxes available in Oregon. It is still safe to use the mail, just send it by October 27 - one week before Election Day."
Oregonians can find the drop box nearest them by using the drop box locator at OregonVotes.gov/Dropbox and inputting their address. Please note: you must use the address of a registered Oregon voter for the tool to work.
There are more than 300 drop boxes available around the state, with more on the way. Thanks to the emergency funding from the Oregon Legislature, new drop boxes are already in place and accepting ballots in the following communities:
These locations have already been added to the full list of drop boxes on OregonVotes.gov/Dropbox. The majority are also available in the locator tool on that same page. Newer boxes should be available on the locator tool in the next few days.
Installation is currently in progress for several more drop boxes. They will be added to the drop box locator and the public will be notified once they are in place.
The Oregon Secretary of State's office identified these locations based on a study of Oregonians' current travel times to drop boxes, with the goal of reducing that time for as many Oregonians as possible. The office also considered factors like each county's ability to get a drop box set up in the limited time before Election Day.
The Oregon Secretary of State's office is advising any Oregonian who has not yet received their ballot to contact their county elections office. Contact information for county elections offices can be found at OregonVotes.gov/Counties.
Oregonians can sign up to track their ballots, from when they are sent to when they are accepted for counting, at OregonVotes.gov/Track.
