North Stone Avenue between East Fillmore and 4th streets will close Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 7 a.m. through Friday, Nov. 20, for construction of a new underground stormwater pipe. The closure is part of the City's North Stone Avenue Stormwater Improvements Project, which will improve drainage and help reduce flooding in the area.
The road is expected to reopen by Nov. 20, weather permitting.
Drivers should follow posted detours, allow extra travel time and use alternate routes when possible. Construction is weather-dependent, and schedules may change.
Utility work for the North Stone Avenue Stormwater Improvements Project began in November 2025. The project includes installing new stormwater pipes and drains, relocating a water main and restoring areas affected by construction.
The improvements will help reduce drainage and flooding issues along North Stone Avenue and allow property owners to connect to the new stormwater system in the future.
Following construction, crews will restore affected areas, including road surfaces, curbs and gutters, driveways and landscaping within the work zone.
The City's Stormwater Enterprise is coordinating with Colorado Springs Utilities to complete the improvements while minimizing disruptions to nearby residents and businesses.
