WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) released the following statement after the FCC announced that Nexstar will be taking over Tegna.
"Right now, we need local journalists more than ever. Today's announcement from the Trump Administration is extremely concerning for my constituents who seek truthful, non-biased journalism and a place to get information about everything from the weather to local politics to high school sports. I've been in the newsroom. I've stood in front of the camera knowing families needed me for accurate information to keep them safe. It's critical we protect local journalism so our neighbors continue to get the accurate information they deserve."
"This merger will bring an end to one TV newsroom in the Quad Cities, losing dozens of years of news talent, including reporters, anchors, Meteorologists, and broadcast engineers.
"Democracy dies in darkness and it's incumbent on journalists to shine the light to lead the way."
