Health Insurance Coverage by State: 2025

October 2026
Written by:
Caitlin Carter
Report Number: ACSBR-027

Introduction

Health insurance coverage is an important measure of our nation's overall well-being as it provides greater access to medical care, protection from unexpected costs, and more economic stability for individuals and families. At the same time, health coverage varies over time, reflecting changes in economic conditions, demographic shifts, such as population aging, and policy changes at the federal and state levels that affect access to care. This brief examines the national and state-level health insurance rates for 2025. Health insurance coverage rates were assessed among all 50 states and the District of Columbia using 2025 1- year American Community Survey (ACS) data.
