Sacramento - Caltrans is alerting motorists of the second scheduled 24-hour lane and ramp closures along southbound Capital City Freeway (State Route 51/Business 80). Lanes #2 and #3 are scheduled to be closed for 24 hours from Exposition Boulevard to just south of the American River to accommodate a concrete pour.

This work is part of the $239.5 million American River Bridge Rehabilitation Project to replace the bridge deck, install sheet piles around piers for reinforcement, and add a Class I bike path to connect to the existing American River bike path for increased mobility.

Schedule and Location:

  • Southbound Capital City Freeway (SR 51) lanes #2 and #3
  • Friday, September 19 at 10 p.m. to Saturday, September 20 at 10 p.m.
  • Southbound Exposition Boulevard on-ramps will also be closed

Motorists can use westbound State Route 160 (SR 160) towards Downtown Sacramento or westbound Interstate 80 (I-80) as alternate routes. Work is scheduled to begin as listed but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/ or materials, and construction related issues.

Motorists traveling through the work zone should be aware of commercial work vehicles traveling in and out of the area. The work zone speed limit has been reduced to 55 mph and the California Highway Patrol will be present for traffic enforcement.

This project includes $236.8 million in funding from the State Highway Operation and Protection Program (SHOPP); and $2.7 million from the Active Transportation Program (ATP).
