34 Years since Joining the United Nations: The Republic of Moldova Reaffirms Its Commitment to the UN’s Objectives

Today we mark 34 years since the Republic of Moldova joined the United Nations-a moment of historic significance for the affirmation of our country as a sovereign and independent state, and an opportunity to highlight the strong partnership between the Republic of Moldova and the UN, strengthened over more than three decades.

We value the UN's continued support for advancing the Republic of Moldova's reform agenda and European path, including through projects in key areas such as justice and human rights, health, social protection, sustainable economic development, and climate change adaptation.

With the support of the United Nations, in recent years educational institutions have been renovated, the social assistance system has been modernised, compensation has been provided to mitigate the impact of rising energy prices, and economic opportunities for women have been expanded-just a few examples of the UN's contribution to improving citizens' quality of life.

For its part, the Republic of Moldova remains firmly committed to supporting the Organisation's core objectives and to being a reliable partner by contributing to joint efforts to maintain peace and security, promote democracy, and advance sustainable development. At the same time, we will continue to put forward national candidatures for positions within the UN system, contributing to strengthening the organisation's efficiency and representativeness.

On this anniversary, the Republic of Moldova reaffirms its interest in deepening cooperation with the UN in support of strengthening the rule of law, advancing the European path and increasing social well-being, as well as promoting effective, inclusive multilateralism adapted to today's challenges, including those generated by rapid technological developments and risks in the cyber environment.

On this occasion, we extend our sincere congratulations to the representatives of the Republic of Moldova's diplomatic corps involved in promoting national interests at the UN and its specialised bodies, as well as to the UN Country Team in Moldova, to whom we are grateful for the partnership.
