Gov. Hobbs’ Budget Requests $358.7 Million for School Facilities

In the executive budget released today, Gov. Katie Hobbs is requesting a combined $358.7 million to support new school construction and major renovations to K-12 facilities across Arizona.

The funding would be allocated to the Arizona Department of Administration's School Facilities Division for $200 million in Building Renewal Grants, a figure consistent since 2022's state budget. Another $158.7 million would be directed to the School Facilities Oversight Board for new school construction, focused on communities around the state.

"This request for $358.7 million reflects Governor Hobbs' commitment to education for the kids of Arizona and supports both growing communities and those in desperate need of safe, modernized facilities," said Elizabeth Alvarado-Thorson, director of the Arizona Department Administration. "While school facility needs continue to outpace available funding, this funding supports the educational needs of students and educators around the state."

Under this proposed budget, new school projects that would receive funding, as approved by the School Facilities Oversight Board, include:

  • Chino Valley 9-12
  • Holbrook K-8
  • Laveen K-8
  • Maricopa 6-8
  • Nadaburg K-8
  • Queen Creek 9-12 (two facilities)
  • Sahuarita 9-12
  • Snowflake 7-8
  • St. David 9-12
  • Tolleson 9-12
  • Valentine K-8
