The City Board of Vantaa decided at its meeting on April 7 to donate decommissioned Chromebook laptops to Ukraine. The Board also acknowledged the City of Vantaa's personnel report for 2024.

The City Board decided to donate decommissioned laptops to Ukraine as part of the Laptops for Ukraine campaign. The total value of the donation to be made during the year is up to €23,000.
The City of Vantaa has Chromebook laptops previously used in education that are being phased out but can still be utilized within their remaining lifecycle in Ukraine. The donation may also include some other decommissioned computers and accessories.
Google services are widely used in Ukrainian schools, which enables easy integration of Chromebook devices into existing systems and practices.
The European-wide Laptops for Ukraine campaign collects ICT equipment, giving devices a new life in the hands of, for example, a Ukrainian pupil, teacher or healthcare worker.
Attacks on Ukraine's critical infrastructure and the prolonged war have also created challenges for maintaining IT connections. The campaign provides various actors with an opportunity to support Ukraine in a coordinated way.
At the end of 2024, the City of Vantaa employed 8,258 people, of whom 6,152 were permanent and 2,099 fixed-term employees.
The average age of personnel was 45 years, and the average length of employment was 9 years.
The education sector was the most female-dominated (85% women), while the urban environment sector had the highest proportion of men (56%). There were 416 supervisors, of whom 69% were women.
In 2024, employee turnover decreased to 8.3%. The biggest recruitment challenges were in early childhood education and teaching.
The sickness absence rate was 6.02%. The highest rate was in the education sector (6.64%). Preventive occupational health services, such as occupational physiotherapy, were used more than before during the year.
Musculoskeletal-related absences were common. Overall occupational healthcare costs amounted to approximately €3 million.
Personnel expenses totaled €422.9 million, which is 7.3% higher than the previous year. Salary increases were implemented in accordance with the municipal sector agreement.
Employee benefits were enhanced with the introduction of ePassi. The flex benefit enabled support for wellbeing, sports and cultural services with €200 per year.
