Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) has further expanded its regional footprint with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Malaysia's Ministry of Communications, aimed at strengthening media collaboration and cultural exchange.
In a statement, the public broadcaster said the agreement outlines several key areas of cooperation, including joint productions highlighting the cultural and tourism appeal of both Hong Kong and Malaysia, with the aim of encouraging greater cross-border travel.
The MoU was signed at the headquarters of Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) in Kuala Lumpur, witnessed by Director of Broadcasting Angelina Kwan and RTM Director-General Ashwad Ismail.
During her visit, Kwan also held discussions with Ismail on future collaboration opportunities, covering programme exchanges, co-productions, and talent development initiatives.
RTHK said these efforts are expected to strengthen people-to-people ties under the Belt and Road Initiative, while deepening cultural connections between Hong Kong and the ASEAN region.
Kwan reaffirmed the broadcaster's commitment to supporting broader government efforts to enhance engagement with ASEAN, noting that RTHK is actively expanding partnerships with media organisations across the region.
With similar agreements already in place with broadcasters in Indonesia and Malaysia, RTHK continues to build its international communication network as part of a wider strategy to elevate Hong Kong's media presence across Southeast Asia and beyond.
The broadcaster added that discussions are ongoing with other ASEAN media organisations, as it seeks to further deepen regional collaboration.
Looking ahead, RTHK will continue to leverage Hong Kong's unique position as a bridge between mainland China and the global community, sharing stories from both the nation and the city while promoting Chinese culture internationally.
