New Brunswick to Dedicate 9/11 Memorial Sculpture on 25th Anniversary

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (September 7, 2026) - A new public sculpture honoring the victims, first responders, and enduring legacy of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks will be dedicated in New Brunswick on the upcoming 25th anniversary of the national tragedy.

The unveiling ceremony for the monument, titled "The Weight" and created by artist Dawn Drago, is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 11, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. The installation stands at 106 Somerset St., near the southbound ramp of the NJ Transit Station.

The sculpture serves as a local point of reflection 25 years after hijacked planes struck the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and a field in Shanksville, Pa., claiming nearly 3,000 lives.

New Jersey lost more than 700 residents that day, making local transit hubs vital gathering places in the aftermath. Designed to symbolize both heavy grief and shared endurance, the permanent artwork offers commuters and community members a quiet space to honor the victims, reflect on the tragic morning, and remember the resilience born from loss.
