Nunn Rural Housing Reform Bill Passes Financial Services Committee in Landmark Housing Package

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The House Financial Services Committee advanced key provisions of Representative Zach Nunn's (IA-03) bipartisan Rural Housing Service Reform Act , marking a significant step toward modernizing outdated USDA housing programs, improving oversight, and expanding access to affordable housing in rural communities.

"Rural housing faces unique challenges that Washington has ignored for far too long," said Rep. Nunn . "Families shouldn't have to wait a year or more for a simple home repair approval. This bill brings commonsense reforms that reduce bureaucracy and help rural Iowans stay in the homes they've worked hard to build."

Introduced with Representative Emanuel Cleaver (MO-05), the Rural Housing Service Reform Act improves accountability, updates outdated systems, and streamlines USDA programs to better serve low-income families, seniors, and workers in small towns and farming communities. It also increases transparency and helps preserve the nation's supply of affordable rural housing.

These provisions were included in the Housing for the 21st Century Act , a broader bipartisan housing package aimed at increasing housing supply, removing regulatory barriers, and modernizing federal housing programs to better reflect the needs of rural, suburban, and urban America. The final package includes more than two dozen bipartisan proposals focused on affordability, modernization, and local flexibility.

"This is the most significant rural housing reform in decades," continued Rep. Nunn . "We're delivering real results for Iowa families and communities across the heartland-and we'll keep working to bring this package to the House floor early next year."
