Resurfacing project to start in Cooper, Chariton and Howard counties

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - A resurfacing project is set to begin this week on Route V in Cooper County, Route V in Chariton and Howard counties, Spur 240 in Howard County, and Route E in Howard County, weather permitting. Contractors from Christensen Construction Co., working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, will narrow each roadway to one lane Monday through Friday, during daylight hours, with flaggers and a pilot car guiding motorists through the work zone, while construction is active. All work is projected to be complete by mid-June.

The current planned order of work, subject to change, is:

• Now through May 5: Spur 240 in Howard County (north of Rocheport).
• Now through May 8: Cooper County Route V from Route 179 to the end of state maintenance.
• Now through May 21: Route V between Route 5 (Chariton County) and Route 3 (Howard County).
• May 8 - June 8: Howard County Route E between Park Road in Fayette and the end of state maintenance.

All work is weather permitting, and schedules are subject to change.

The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded a $2,328,701.68 contract to Christensen Construction Co. at its November 2026 meeting to complete this resurfacing project.
