Aspirus Merrill Hospital Celebrates 100 Years While Investing in the Future of Local Health Care

As Aspirus Merrill Hospital approaches its 100th anniversary this November, the hospital is also nearing completion of a transformative $40 million renovation and expansion project that will help ensure local access to high-quality care for generations to come.

Since opening its doors in November 1926, Aspirus Merrill Hospital has played an important role in the health and well-being of Merrill-area residents. Over the past century, the hospital has evolved alongside the community, adapting to meet changing health care needs while maintaining its commitment to providing care close to home.

Today, that commitment is reflected in one of the most significant investments in the hospital's history.

The $40 million renovation and expansion project, expected to be completed in early 2027, is modernizing and enhancing patient care spaces throughout the facility. Project highlights include:

• Addition of a new Emergency Department triage room
• Expanded Imaging Department featuring new state-of-the-art imaging equipment
• Completely redesigned and expanded Laboratory Department
• Redesigned 20-bed inpatient unit with 10 additional patient rooms
• New inpatient physical therapy suite
• Reflection room and activity room for patients and families
• Renovated dining area and upgraded food service equipment

The Aspirus Health Foundation and Aspirus Merrill Hospital are planning a community open house in early 2027 to celebrate completion of the renovation and expansion project and reflect on 100 years of service to the Merrill community.
