Buffalo Man Sentenced for Killing His Stepdaughter

Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announces that Peter D. Brown, 39, of Buffalo, was sentenced this afternoon before State Supreme Court Judge Kelly Vacco. Brown received the maximum sentence of 25 years in prison followed by 5 years of post-release supervision.

During the early morning of Sunday, August 4, 2024, at approximately 4:25 a.m., Buffalo Police responded to a residence on the 400 block of East Ferry Street after receiving a 911 call. The victim, 20-year-old Kayshawnna M. Jordan, was found deceased inside of her bedroom. The Erie County Medical Examiner's Office ruled the manner of death as homicide caused by manual strangulation and blunt impact injuries to the head. The investigation determined that the defendant caused the death of his stepdaughter inside of their shared residence.

In October 2025, Brown was arrested on a fugitive warrant in Randolph County, Alabama. He refused to waive extradition and remained in custody without bond in the Randolph County Jail. Our office obtained a Governor's warrant from the State of Alabama to return Brown to Erie County to face prosecution for the homicide of his step-daughter.

In July 2026, Brown pleaded guilty to one count of Manslaughter in the First Degree (Class B violent felony). He entered a guilty plea to the reduced charge in full satisfaction of the indictment.

Christopher Pliszka, Detective Chris Sterlace, Detective Scott Malec, Detective Anthony Shea, Officer Craig Stevens and Officer Sean Overdorf of the Buffalo Police Department for their work in this investigation. DA Keane also commends the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force and the Randolph County Sheriff's Office for their assistance as well as ECDA victim advocates Kimberly Rapp and Nicole Haffa.

The case was prosecuted by Chief Ashley M. Morgan of the Homicide Bureau and Assistant District Attorney Meredith M. Mohun of the Major Crimes Bureau.
