VIENNA, 19 February (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of Colombia to the United Nations (Vienna), Marcela Tovar Thomas, presented her credentials today to the Acting Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), John Brandolino.
During her career, Ms. Tovar Thomas has served in various capacities, among them:
Deputy Minister of the Office of Criminal Policy and Restorative Justice (2025-2026); Director of Drug Policy, Ministry of Justice and Law (2025-2026); Advisor to the Minister for Drug Policy, Ministry of Justice and Law (2025); Advisor on international cooperation and gender, National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (2024-2025); Advisor, Drug Policy Direction, Ministry of Justice and Law (2022-2024); Consultant, Advocacy Strategy, CPAT (2016-2023); Strategic Alliances Advisor, High Council for Victims, Peace Memory, and Reconciliation of Bogotá (2021-2022); Country Representative, International Medical Corps Colombia (2021-2022); Programme Manager, Human Rights Direction, Bogotá Government Secretary (2020-2021); Advisor, Victims' Public Policy Implementation, Defensoría del Pueblo Colombia (2018); Team Coordinator, National Unit for Attention and Reparation of Victims Colombia (2016-2017); Advisor, Vice Ministry of Employment (2016-2017); Advisor, Social Integration Secretariat in Bogotá (2015-2016); Youth Programme Coordinator, Security Direction, Government Secretary in Bogotá (2013-2015); Advisor, City of Bogotá Council (2012-2013); and Coordinator of Evaluation and Monitoring, Acción Técnica Social (ATS) (2009-2012).
Ms. Tovar Thomas holds a master's degree in education and training from Sorbonne Paris V University and a Bachelor of Philosophy from Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Bogotá.
She speaks English, French and Spanish.
