Israel/Palestine: Statement by the Spokesperson

The situation in the West Bank village of Qusra with families trapped inside their homes for over a week due to settler violence lays bare a trend of increased violence by extremist settlers, which the EU has consistently condemned. Acts of intimidation, harassment, destruction of property, and physical harm against Palestinians in attempts to drive them from their homes must immediately end.

The EU reiterates once again its condemnation of continued settler violence and calls once more on Israel to take decisive action to address the issue and ensure accountability for the perpetrators of crimes. The EU recalls that it is Israel's obligation under international law to protect the Palestinian population in the occupied territory.

The EU also strongly condemns the recent statements by Israeli Minister Ben Gvir concerning Gaza and the videos posted online. The use of such egregious and inciteful language is unacceptable and should not be left unchecked. In his role as Minister, the Israeli government has a responsibility to reign in such rhetoric.
