Long Beach, CA - Long Beach Animal Care Services (LBACS) has joined NBCUniversal Local's 2026 Clear the Shelters national pet adoption and donation campaign, taking place through Aug. 31, 2026. LBACS is holding adoption specials throughout the month to encourage responsible, mindful adoptions and encouraging the community to get involved in other ways such as fostering, volunteering and donating.
"Through our Long Beach Animal Care Services, we are proud to be a longstanding participant of this important campaign that helps animals find a safe and loving home," said Mayor Rex Richardson.
During Clear the Shelters, LBACS is offering $16 adoption specials for cats and the opportunity for dog adopters to name their adoption fee for dogs over six months old. The pricing also includes spay/neuter, microchip and vaccine costs. People interested in adopting can visit LBACS (7700 E. Spring St.) Wednesdays through Fridays, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Prospective Long Beach adoption families can also search for adoptable pets by breed, gender and size and submit an adoption application ahead of time on the Adoptions webpage at longbeach.gov/acs. Residents can also get involved and help support local animals by fostering, volunteering or through a variety of donation opportunities.
This is the 12th consecutive year NBC and Telemundo-owned stations are partnering with affiliate stations, animal care facilities and rescues to promote pet adoption and help raise funds to support animal welfare. Since its inception in 2015, Clear The Shelters has helped more than 1.3 million pets find new homes. During last year's campaign, 170 animals were adopted from LBACS, which is above normal for the month of August.
