Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Varsen Shaheen, received today, Thursday, at the Ministry's headquarters, the new Representative of the Republic of Korea to the State of Palestine, Mr. Young Kul Koh.
Minister Shaheen emphasized Palestine's commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with the Republic of Korea and fostering cooperation across various fields. She underscored the urgent necessity for the Republic of Korea to recognize the State of Palestine as a fundamental step towards upholding the two-state solution and achieving a just and comprehensive peace. Furthermore, she expressed appreciation for Korea's unwavering support for Palestinian institutions through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and its contributions to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
Dr. Shaheen also briefed Representative Koh on the ongoing Israeli crimes and violations against the Palestinian people, particularly in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. She affirmed that the Palestinian government continues to exert relentless political and diplomatic efforts to halt the brutal assaults and secure an immediate ceasefire, stressing the urgency of this step given the deepening humanitarian catastrophe. Additionally, she urged the enforcement of international resolutions to hold the occupying power accountable.
For his part, Mr. Koh reaffirmed his country's consistent and principled support for the Palestinian people's legitimate rights, including their right to self-determination and the realization of an independent Palestinian State in accordance with the two-state solution and relevant UN resolutions. He also emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in all fields.
