The City of Syracuse Department of Engineering has released the Stormwater Management Plan (SWMP) and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) municipal Separate Stormwater Sewer Systems (MS4) draft Annual Report for public review and comment.
The SWMP, required by the NYSDEC's State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (SPDES) General Permit, outlines efforts to reduce stormwater pollution. The General Permit is designed to reduce the amount of sediment and pollution that enters the surface and ground water from our storm sewer systems to the maximum extent practicable. Through the permit, the City is required to develop a SWMP that incorporates best management practices. The MS4 Annual Report reviews progress on these initiatives for the year ending January 2, 2026, and sets new goals for the upcoming year.
The public can view these documents and submit comments by visiting syr.gov/Departments/Engineering/Municipal-Separate-Storm-Sewer-Systems-MS4s. Comments will be accepted until Wednesday, March 25.
