How CCWD Prepares for Fire Protection

We are saddened to see the unprecedented and devastating fires in Los Angeles County. Urban water systems are not typically designed to fight fires of this magnitude and duration. While processing this devastation, CCWD recognizes that customers may question whether the water systems in our neighborhoods are ready to protect us against fires. Here are some key things CCWD does to ensure water is available for fire protection:

  • CCWD's treated water system is designed with sufficient firefighting capacity to manage localized property fires lasting multiple hours.
  • CCWD inspects hydrants regularly and replaces them as necessary to ensure water is available when needed.
  • When upgrading neighborhood water pipes, CCWD works with local fire officials to add and determine the placement of new fire hydrants.
  • In case of large-scale wildfires, CCWD works with local emergency responders to ensure access to open reservoirs and other water supplies.

Our thoughts are with the residents, communities and first responders in Los Angeles County.
