The 19 Buddhist monks from Fort Worth who've been on a 2,300-mile spiritual sojourn since Oct. 26 will arrive home on Valentine's Day at their temple in the Historic Stop Six neighborhood.
The group embarked on the "Walk for Peace" - a 108-day pilgrimage from Fort Worth to Washington, D.C. - to spread compassion and unity across the United States. Joined by their beloved rescue pup, Aloka, the monks trekked across eight states, stopping along the way to connect with communities eagerly awaiting them.
Sometimes walking in socks or even bare feet, the monks faced harsh conditions. One monk lost a leg in a serious traffic accident Nov. 19 near Houston. Despite the setbacks, they never lost sight of their mission: to raise awareness of inner peace and mindfulness across America and the world.
They ended their journey at the Lincoln Memorial and other famous sites in the nation's capital Feb. 11, after which they boarded a bus back to Fort Worth. Upon arriving at the downtown Water Gardens around 8 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14, the group will begin a final six-mile walk back to their temple, Hương Đạo Vipassana Bhavana Center, in Council District 5.
All are invited to attend the final walk and the peace celebration afterward. Watch the Walk for Peace webpage or the Watch the Walk for Peace Facebook page for details.
